Burford

Burford from the meadows
watercolour on paper
5.75 x 7.75 inches

A quick morning watercolour in a strong wind, so no easel and a piece of rougher paper than I usually like to use. These fields are often flooded in winter but are not too bad at the moment.

Daffodils from the garden

Lovely to be able to paint my favourite flowers from right
outside the front door. They bring such cheer each year with their confirmation that winter is officially over and the promise of much beauty in the days to come.

Spring blossom

Spring seems to have sprung right on time, though there wasn't much sun around this morning. Some daffodils are coming out in the garden and lots more all ready to burst open. Now might be the time to try and capture some of the early colour before the April winds blow it all away.

Shepherd's Hut

Shepherd's Hut at Lodge Park
Watercolour on paper
5.75 x 7.75 inches
(10 x 12inches mounted)

I found this old hut at Lodge Park, a 17th century grandstand with a mile long deer course, part of the Sherborne Park Estate now owned by the National Trust. Unfortunately it was all locked up so I wasn't able to peek inside. I hope to do more from this location in due course.
Lovely views from the Lodge balcony. Unfortunately the roof wasn't open today.

Early Geranium

Early Geranium

I take it as a good sign that everything is ok with the world when my geriatric Geranium awakes from its slumber and starts to flower again, adding a splash of colour to the kitchen windowsill.  There are five further buds on other branches of this venerable plant which probably makes them cousins. I enjoyed doing this as a little sketch in a sketchbook and am looking forward to developing it into a larger painting.

From the footpath

I liked the arrangement of the outbuildings here and the surprising colours in the background. A little difficulty in resting my drawing board on the fence, but it was too windy for an easel !

Survivor

watercolour on paper

After a windy few days I came across an as yet unexplored footpath at the other end of the village and discovered some wonderful trees among other things. This one looked as though it had a tough time over winter but it's still hanging in there.

Out of Fuel

Out of fuel
watercolour on paper
18 x 12 inches
(24 x 18 inches mounted)

Another piece of nostalgia from the "Vintage and Veteran" series. It doesn't seem that long ago since these pumps were on every forecourt and someone came out of the garage to serve you !!
